HUDSON VALLEY · OUTLET SHOPPING
By CenterNYC Editorial · Information checked October 13, 2026
Some New York days end with a museum postcard. This one may end with a coat you did not expect to find and a serious discussion about suitcase space. Woodbury Common is a little village devoted to that possibility: designer windows, sneaker stores and one more shop that looks worth a quick look. The trick is deciding what you came for before the windows decide for you.
At a glance: Woodbury Common Premium Outlets is an open-air shopping destination at 498 Red Apple Court, Central Valley, New York. Regular hours are 10 a.m.–9 p.m. daily. Allow four to six hours on site, plus roughly one to two hours on the road each way from Manhattan. Parking is free according to the operator.

Is it worth giving up a New York day?
For someone replacing a wardrobe or comparing several favorite brands, the concentration is the attraction. You can devote a day to shopping without crisscrossing Manhattan. For someone who only wants a T-shirt, the journey can swallow the saving. Give Woodbury a place in your trip because you enjoy the hunt, not because an outlet is supposed to be compulsory.
The outdoor streets are part of its character. You move between shops rather than staying inside one enclosed mall, which feels very different on a bright autumn morning and in driving rain. If staying indoors matters more than the particular brands, compare Jersey Gardens before choosing your day.
Which stores should go on your list?
Start with a few priorities, then use the official store directory to group them by location. These examples were listed when we checked; a store listing does not establish stock in your size.
| Your shopping priority | Examples to look for |
|---|---|
| Designer fashion | Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Dior |
| Sportswear and sneakers | adidas Outlet, ASICS, Nike, lululemon, On |
| Everyday clothing | Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Calvin Klein, Gap Factory |
| Bags and accessories | Coach Outlet, Michael Kors, Tory Burch |
| Children’s clothing | Carter’s/OshKosh, Gap Outlet Kids & Baby |
A practical way to begin: choose the item that would make the journey worthwhile. Try that first, while your patience and attention are fresh. Browsing becomes much more enjoyable once you are no longer worrying that the one thing you needed is still at the other end of the center.
Getting to Woodbury from Manhattan
| Address | 498 Red Apple Court, Central Valley, NY 10917. |
|---|---|
| Regular hours | Daily 10 a.m.–9 p.m.; holiday exceptions may differ. Official dated hours. |
| Road-time allowance | Roughly 60–120 minutes each way from Manhattan, our editorial planning range rather than a live traffic prediction. Add terminal access and waiting for a bus journey. |
| Suggested whole day | About seven to ten hours for shopping, travel and breaks; traffic or a longer shopping session can extend it. |
| Parking | Free across the property, per the official amenities page. |
Open Woodbury Common in Google Maps. Drivers approach via Route 32; the operator lists I-87 Exit 16/Harriman as a main route. Photograph your parking section when you arrive. Remembering the store you passed is less useful when you later discover that you passed it three times.
Without a car: the official travel page lists Coach USA/Shortline service from Port Authority and other Manhattan services. Buy from the operator and choose the return before shopping. Woodbury itself does not sell bus tickets. Coach USA provides current schedules and fares; different operators use different pickups and ticket conditions.
For Shortline/Coach USA, the center identifies Bus Plaza 1 in the Adirondacks District near BOSS Outlet. Group and tour buses use Bus Plaza 2. Keep your own operator’s return instructions handy rather than joining whichever queue looks promising.
A shopping plan that still feels like a day off
Four hours: a focused visit
Pick three priority stores and two backups. Spend the first part on the purchase that needs trying on, then give yourself time to compare. Take a seated break before the final round. Leave the last half-hour for the walk to your pickup or car, not a frantic dash through another fitting room. Adjust that margin to the actual meeting point.
Five to six hours: room to explore
Divide your list into two groups with lunch between them. If you and your companion want completely different things, agree on a meeting place and time. Shopping separately for an hour can be kinder than asking someone to admire a seventh nearly identical jacket.
With children, shorten the list and make the break real. The operator lists a playground, family restrooms and stroller facilities. It also offers complimentary wheelchairs, scooter rentals and lockers; consult visitor amenities for locations and availability. Those services help, but a large shopping complex still involves substantial movement.
The discount is not the budget
Decide on a purchases budget separately from transport and food. A useful question is “Would I want this at this price?” rather than “How much has been crossed out?” Compare the same model, fabric and features, and ask about returns before paying for something you might bring back.
Here is an example, not a fare quote: if two people set aside $250 each for purchases, they have a $500 shopping allowance. Their bus tickets and meals still have to be added. A free car park does not remove fuel, tolls or a rental charge. Leaving those costs out is how a successful bargain hunt becomes an unexpectedly expensive day.
Browse the center’s current offers and Simon+ information before leaving. Read the conditions for the stores you actually want; a coupon for something you never intended to buy is not a reason to enlarge the list.
What shoppers think
In the Tripadvisor feedback we read, the range of designer stores is a recurring reason to make the trip. An April 2026 reviewer was enthusiastic about the selection and specifically warned against missing the last bus. Other visitors described uneven savings between brands or transport delays. The useful takeaway is to arrive expecting a search, not a guarantee that every shop beats the price at home.
Some older comments discuss parking charges; the current operator page explicitly says parking is free. We use that current policy for practical planning, rather than treating an older review as today’s rule.
Kosher food and a comfortable return before Shabbat
Bring a meal and snacks that meet your standards so lunch does not become a second research project. We have not verified a current branch-specific kosher certificate for a food business here. If you find a counter you want to use, check its supervising agency, address and certificate validity; the word “kosher” in a business name is not enough.
For a Shabbat-observant trip, choose Sunday through Thursday outside Jewish holidays. Friday is a poor fit for a full shopping day with an uncertain return drive. Plan a relaxed meal back in the city using our kosher restaurant guides, without booking it so tightly that traffic dictates your evening.
Photo stops and a quick preview
The gazebo and open shopping streets make a more recognizable memory than a photograph of bags on a hotel bed. Take a wider view that leaves room for the architecture, and keep entrances clear. Our photograph is from 2019; signs and tenants may have changed.
Watch a 2025 Woodbury walking tour on YouTube for a sense of the outdoor layout. It opens when you choose to watch, keeping this page light. Use the current official directory for your store list.
Woodbury, Jersey Gardens or American Dream?
Choose Woodbury when its brands justify a dedicated outdoor shopping day. Choose Jersey Gardens for an indoor outlet setting. Choose American Dream when paid family attractions are a major part of the outing. They answer different wishes; combining them all is more likely to produce a long drive than a better holiday.
Browse our shopping guides for the alternatives. If the group would rather spend its day on rides, LEGOLAND New York is a separate Hudson Valley outing, not an easy extra after six hours in stores.
Frequently asked questions
Is Woodbury an indoor mall?
No. Stores are indoors, but you walk outside between them. In heavy rain or severe cold, consider an enclosed alternative.
Can I visit without renting a car?
Yes. The center lists Manhattan bus operators. Book the correct departure and return with your chosen operator.
Is parking free?
The official amenities page says parking is free across the property, checked October 13, 2026.
How long should I allow?
Our suggestion is four to six hours shopping, plus the outward and return journey. A focused visit can use the shorter end.
Are all stores cheaper than Manhattan?
Not necessarily. Compare the same product and the final selling price rather than relying on the discount percentage.
