MEADOWLANDS, NEW JERSEY · FOOTBALL & BIG NIGHTS
By Zvi Zidon and the CenterNYC editorial team · Sources checked October 13, 2026
The first thing to understand about MetLife is that the New York part belongs to the teams. The stadium is in New Jersey. The second is that this is not an attraction to squeeze between lunch and a museum: a game here takes over the day, from the journey across the Hudson to the crowd making its way home.
For a football fan, that is the point. The field, the enormous bowl of seats and the collective reaction to a single play are the experience. If you are more interested in how a stadium works than who wins, a guided tour offers a different way in.
At a glance: MetLife Stadium is the Giants’ and Jets’ home in East Rutherford. Buy for a specific game, concert or tour; it is not a daily walk-in attraction. Public tours last 90–120 minutes. Event tickets and transport need to be planned together.

One stadium, two football identities
MetLife has been open since April 2010 and accommodates 82,500 for football and soccer. Both the New York Giants and New York Jets call it home. The stadium’s official history also records its role as host of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
Those facts explain the scale, but not the reason to choose it. Go because there is a team, performer or sporting occasion you care about. A stadium ticket buys a particular event, not a guarantee that every evening will feel the same. For concerts, the stage arrangement matters as much as the section number; for football, think about how much you value proximity versus a wider view of the play.
Choose your visit before choosing your seat
| Visit | What to book | Time to allow |
|---|---|---|
| Giants or Jets game | The exact home fixture and seat through the official event or team link | A substantial part of the day, including arrival and departure queues |
| Concert | The performance date and its own seating layout | The event’s published timing plus travel and exit time |
| Public stadium tour | A listed tour through Ticketmaster | 90–120 minutes inside, plus travel and check-in |
Start with the official stadium website and its event calendar. There is no useful single admission price for a venue hosting both football and stadium concerts. Compare the final price for your date and seat, then add transport or event parking and food. Do not treat an old resale price as a starting price for a different game.
The quieter option: a stadium tour
The official public-tour page lists selected Saturdays and/or Sundays, generally at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and/or 4 p.m. Tickets are sold through Ticketmaster’s linked listing. The walking tour lasts 90–120 minutes; the overview does not give a fixed ticket price.
Possible stops include the press box, Moody’s Commissioners Club, Legacy Club, suites and the field, subject to availability. Field access is excluded in August and September. Choose an actual available Sunday for a Shabbat-observant visit; the existence of a weekend-tour page does not mean there is a Sunday tour every week.
It is a good option for someone who loves the machinery behind a big event: where journalists work, how premium spaces differ from the stands, and what the building feels like without a game commanding all the attention. Wear shoes you would happily walk in for two hours.
Tour-day details: the official tour instructions direct visitors to the MetLife Gate, with free tour parking in lots F or G. Tours run in rain or shine and include outdoor areas. No food or drink is allowed on the tour; eat before arrival. Tour bag and camera rules differ from game-day rules, so use the instructions for the visit you booked.
From Manhattan: plan the return before you leave
Address: One MetLife Stadium Drive, East Rutherford, NJ 07073. Open MetLife Stadium in Google Maps.
For events with rail service, NJ TRANSIT directs Manhattan passengers from New York Penn Station to Secaucus Junction, then onto the Meadowlands shuttle. This is an event service, not a train to assume will run for an ordinary tour. The same official page links the Coach USA 351 Meadowlands Express from Port Authority.
NJ TRANSIT now offers event-specific tickets in its app that activate automatically for the chosen event day. A ticket is required to board the train back from Meadowlands. Read the schedule for your event before purchasing; a convenient outward trip is only half the plan.
For planning from Midtown, reserve roughly 60–90 minutes each way for the journey and transfers, with extra time for security before the event and crowds afterward. This is our broad planning allowance, not a live timetable. Road traffic and post-event queues can make the return longer. Avoid a tightly timed dinner or airport transfer immediately afterward.

Kosher concessions: useful, but confirm the event
The stadium’s official dining directory lists kosher concessions at sections 123, 144, 206, 209, 243, 309 and 334, with hot dogs, pretzels, chicken nuggets and knish. It also says stands and menus can change. The directory does not identify the supervising agency or promise that all seven locations open for every event.
Before relying on a stand for dinner, confirm that it operates for your event and inspect the current certificate at that location. A stadium directory is a useful lead, not a substitute for the certificate. We have not independently verified a current concession certificate for this guide.
For a game or concert, a packed meal can make the day simpler. The stadium’s carry-in rules allow food in a clear plastic bag, excluding suites, and factory-sealed canned or plastic water or soft drinks up to 20 ounces. Read your event’s specific notice before packing.
For Shabbat-observant visitors, select a suitable weekday or Sunday event. Leave a generous return margin for any Friday visit; a match time alone does not account for traffic, station queues or getting home before candle lighting.
The bag is a small detail with a big consequence
The standard policy allows one clear bag up to 12 × 6 × 12 inches, or a small non-clear clutch up to 4.5 × 6.5 inches. A normal sightseeing backpack is the wrong default. Strollers and umbrellas are generally prohibited; event-specific notices can change the arrangements. Accessible and companion seating is available across the stadium’s levels. Use the official accessibility information when choosing seats and your route.
For families, think beyond whether a child can enter. A loud, crowded event followed by a slow journey back is a different proposition from a short museum visit. Choose the day for the child who tires first, bring suitable layers, and decide in advance whether leaving early would make the evening more enjoyable.
Three photographs worth planning
The exterior before entry: leave enough room in the frame to show the building’s scale. Take the picture before joining your gate queue, without blocking other arrivals.
The first view from your section: the field and surrounding stands usually tell the story better than a tightly zoomed distant player. Take a quick photograph, then let yourself watch the event.
A permitted tour stop: ask the guide where photography is allowed before setting up a shot. Event camera rules are specific; the standard prohibited-items list includes tripods and detachable-lens cameras. A phone is the simplest way to keep photography from becoming a luggage problem.
Take a look before you choose seats
The stadium links to an official virtual tour of its spaces. Use it to explore the setting, then consult the seating chart for your specific event: a concert stage can change the view considerably.
CenterNYC combined audience score
4.5 / 5
Google Maps + Tripadvisor · weighted by review counts
What visitors appreciate—and what takes patience
The stadium experience and the journey home can feel like two different reviews. Tripadvisor visitors praise the atmosphere and helpful staff; individual accounts also mention expensive concessions and traffic. Paul Mckay’s September 2025 review describes reassuring guidance from staff on a first visit from abroad. The practical takeaway: choose an event you care about, and give the return journey room to breathe.
Audience ratings checked October 13, 2026: Google Maps, 4.5/5 from 27,428 reviews; Tripadvisor, 4.2/5 from 1,088. The combined audience score uses review counts as weights and rounds to one decimal.
Make it the day’s main event
American Dream is nearby in the Meadowlands, but nearby does not make a full mall outing, a stadium event and two journeys magically fit into a relaxed afternoon. If you add another activity, keep it modest and settle the transfer first. A tour day offers more flexibility than a sold-out evening event.
For other venues, explore our sports and stadium guides or live-music guides. The best choice is often the event you really want to see, at a time and location that work for your trip.
