WILLIAMSBURG · BOWLING & LIVE MUSIC · STRICTLY 21+

By Zvi Zidon and the CenterNYC editorial team · Practical details checked October 13, 2026

Bowling is a generous sport. Your friends can applaud a strike, a near miss, or the extraordinary confidence with which you sent the ball straight into the gutter. At The Gutter in Williamsburg, the name has already made the joke for you. What remains is a night of rented shoes, friendly competition and a bar that gives your group something to do between conversations.

At a glance: The Gutter’s Brooklyn location is at 200 North 14th Street. It is strictly 21 and over, even on Sunday afternoons. Sunday–Thursday bowling costs $30 per lane per half hour, with shoe rental at $6 per person. Individual lanes are walk-in only.

A night out with a little competition

This is an appealing choice when another evening of sitting across a table feels too predictable. Bowling gives a group a shared story: the surprise expert, the person who insists the lane is crooked, the unlikely comeback. You do not need to be good at it to have a reason to stay engaged.

Our recommendation is to choose it for the activity first. Couples can make a date more playful; friends can build an evening around a lane without needing everybody to share the same musical taste. It is a less convincing choice if the goal is a quiet conversation or an outing with children. The age rule applies to the whole Brooklyn venue, not just people ordering alcohol.

The price belongs to the lane

The useful number is the cost for your group, rather than an imaginary ticket price per person. These are the rates on the official Brooklyn page:

Item Listed rate
Bowling, Sunday–Thursday $30 per lane per half hour
Bowling, Friday–Saturday $35 per lane per half hour
Shoe rental $6 per person
Socks, if needed $4

For example, an hour on one lane plus rental shoes for four costs $84, or $21 each, at the Sunday–Thursday rate. For two, the same hour and two pairs of shoes comes to $72. Those are calculations from the posted rates; drinks, socks and any additional checkout charges are outside the examples. Confirm lane capacity for a larger group rather than assuming everybody can share one.

Paying for half an hour is not the same as buying a completed game. The pace depends on how many people are taking turns. A short session is a taste; an hour gives the evening more room to develop.

The two details that can derail the evening

You cannot reserve a single lane or a single hour. The operator’s FAQ directs small groups to walk in. Arrive with some flexibility rather than promising everyone a precise start time. Party packages are a separate arrangement, through the Brooklyn party-booking page; the operator recommends giving at least three days’ notice.

Bring your actual, valid ID. Photos of identification are not accepted. The FAQ lists non-expired government-issued identification and passports, including non-US passports. Visitors travelling from abroad should resolve this before leaving their accommodation, not while their friends are already choosing bowling shoes.

Brooklyn hours Published opening times
Monday–Thursday 4 p.m.–4 a.m.
Friday 2 p.m.–4 a.m.
Saturday–Sunday Noon–4 a.m.

These are venue hours, not a promise that a lane will be available until closing. For a Shabbat-observant itinerary, plan the outing Sunday–Thursday. The full opening schedule is supplied for reference, not as a recommendation to visit on Friday afternoon or Shabbat.

A second reason to look at the calendar

The Spare Room is the venue’s performance space, and its official event calendar is worth opening before you settle on a date. It turns a bowling bar into an option for people who also want to hear a live band in a smaller room.

The October calendar we checked contains multi-act bills as well as other programming. Choose a specific performance and follow its ticket link; a bowling session is not a concert ticket, and a concert ticket is not a lane reservation. Leave time between the two if you want to combine them. Our guide covers bowling and live performances, rather than recommending parties or dancing.

Two audience scores, different-sized samples

Google Maps: 4.2/5 from 1,010 reviews. Read Google reviews. Tripadvisor: 3.6/5 from 17 reviews. Read Tripadvisor reviews. Checked October 13, 2026. We show these separately: Tripadvisor’s sample is below our more-than-50-review threshold for a combined score.

Make the meal a separate stop

This is a bar and bowling venue, not a certified kosher restaurant. Do not treat its menu or the presence of a familiar brand as kosher approval. For drinks, use the current cRc beverage guidance for the exact product; craft beer, flavourings, wine finishes and cocktail ingredients need their own attention. Ask your rabbi about service and glassware if relevant to your practice.

For the easiest evening, eat at a separately verified kosher restaurant first, then come here for the game. Our kosher restaurant collection is the place to begin. Choose the actual branch and check its current certificate, hours and travel time. A Brooklyn address alone does not mean a restaurant is nearby.

A Williamsburg outing, without watching the clock all day

Give the neighborhood its daylight hours and the bowling alley the part of the evening when you are ready for an indoor activity. Our neighborhood guides can help choose the earlier walk. In rain, reverse the emphasis: make the indoor outing the main plan, with only the walking your group wants.

Use Google Maps for the Brooklyn address. The operator also has other locations, so check the branch before following directions. Step-free access and accessible bowling arrangements were not established in the pages reviewed; contact the venue before travelling if they are essential.

For photographs, the best souvenir may be your group’s reaction to a wildly improbable strike. Ask staff about photography, keep clear of players and approaches, and make your friends the subject rather than strangers at the next lane.
