A balloon is usually the decoration at the party. At DAYDREAM, it gets the starring role. Air, movement and oversized forms turn the Tin Building into a place where contemporary art feels closer to an invitation to play than a lesson you have to pass.
At a glance: Balloon Museum’s DAYDREAM is at 96 South Street in the Seaport. Allow 60–90 minutes. A sampled weekday adult ticket cost $47.31 including fees and taxes; children’s tickets and family options are available.

Art that takes up room—and wants your attention
DAYDREAM is the inaugural exhibition at Balloon Museum’s first permanent U.S. flagship. The official exhibition page lists work by Martin Creed, Marina Abramović, Karina Smigla-Bobinski and other international artists. This is an exhibition built around inflated forms and sensory encounters, rather than a collection of paintings you follow along a wall.
Look for Creed’s Work No. 3966: Half The Air In A Given Space, Smigla-Bobinski’s ADA, Onion Lab’s Into The Cloud and Daniel Wurtzel’s Air Tables. Their titles alone suggest different ways to think about something normally invisible. Air can fill a space, support an object or make it move; here, it becomes the thing you notice.
Our advice is to give each room a few moments before reaching for the camera. What changes when you move? Where is the light coming from? Which part of the work is being shaped by visitors? Those small questions can make the difference between collecting pictures and actually enjoying the exhibition. Follow each installation’s instructions: an interactive museum does not mean everything is touchable.
Who will enjoy it most?
We would put it on the shortlist for families who enjoy playful art, friends planning a colorful afternoon and couples who prefer doing something together to standing silently in a gallery. It is a different proposition from spending half a day with a major historical collection. If this is your only museum budget, compare it with our New York museum guides before deciding.
For a rainy Seaport day, it provides an indoor centerpiece. For a tight budget, the waterfront outside offers a very different kind of pleasure for free. Neither is the wrong choice; the useful question is whether your group wants this particular experience enough to pay for it.
The $39 ticket is not the final bill
We opened the official booking calendar for Tuesday, October 13, 2026 at 10 a.m. These were the individual ticket totals displayed, with fees and taxes included:
| Ticket | Base price | Displayed total |
|---|---|---|
| Adult, 18–64 | $39 | $47.31 |
| Reduced, including ages 12–17 and 65+ | $34 | $41.69 |
| Child, 3–11 | $29 | $36.10 |
Two adult and two child tickets at those individual rates total $166.82. Compare the family offer before paying: the same session also displayed family pricing, which may reduce the bill. This is a dated example, not a fixed price for every visit. The selected booking session confirms free entry under age three, without a ticket.
Choose a date in the official ticket calendar. A less expensive morning can leave more of your budget for the rest of the day. Do not compare one seller’s headline amount with another seller’s final total.

Open the museum in Google Maps. We confirmed Friday October 16 entry slots from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday October 18 slots from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; holiday schedules can differ. Fulton Street is a useful subway arrival point, followed by roughly ten minutes on foot. Leave that walk in the plan rather than treating your subway arrival as your museum entry time.
The visitor rules flag latex, flashing lights and sound effects; ask about an alternative route if relevant. Children through age 14 require an adult. Tickets are nonrefundable, with conditional later use for unused tickets. Food and drinks are restricted during the visit, with exceptions for specified dietary and infant needs.
Photo ideas without making the whole visit a photo shoot
Try one wide frame that shows a person in relation to the installation, then a closer photograph of texture or movement. Having someone in the picture gives an oversized object a sense of scale. Put the phone away between rooms; your companions probably did not buy a ticket to become full-time camera assistants.
Personal photography is welcomed; professional equipment and commercial filming require permission. The operator’s official video channel offers previews across its exhibitions. Choose material labeled DAYDREAM New York, since other cities have different installations.

Air inside, river outside
After the enclosed exhibition, let the day open out. Our South Street Seaport guide connects the waterfront with maritime history and an unhurried walk. It is the natural companion to this visit, especially if you want photographs that look unmistakably like New York.
For a family, one paid attraction followed by a walk can be enough. For a longer itinerary, use our New York with kids guide. If colorful indoor experiences are the priority, compare Color Factory as an alternative rather than automatically buying both.
Kosher and Shabbat planning: choose a separately certified meal from our kosher restaurant guides; the museum café is not included in those recommendations. Plan this ticketed visit Sunday through Thursday, or early Friday with time to return before candle lighting.

Is this the same as an older New York Balloon Museum pop-up?
DAYDREAM is the current exhibition at the permanent Tin Building location. Use the Seaport address when booking or opening directions.
Should we choose this or a traditional art museum?

Is $39 the full adult ticket price?
No. Our October 13 morning sample displayed $47.31 with fees and taxes. Your date and ticket type determine the final cost.
