Elmont, Long Island · Islanders hockey and concerts
CenterNYC editorial guide · Sources checked October 11, 2026
A hockey puck is surprisingly difficult to follow until an entire arena tells you where it went. At an Islanders game, the crowd becomes part of your introduction: the sudden rise from the seats, the shared groan, the release when a chance finally turns into a goal. UBS Arena is worth considering for that evening, not simply because another famous building fits on your map.
At a glance: UBS Arena is the New York Islanders’ home in Elmont, Long Island, outside New York City. It also hosts touring concerts. Plan around an actual event; the LIRR ride from Penn Station or Grand Central is roughly 30 minutes, with additional time needed for the station-to-arena transfer and entry.

Choose the evening before choosing the arena
For a first hockey game, you do not need a working knowledge of every penalty. Watch how the teams spread out, how quickly possession changes and how the crowd reacts before the scoreboard catches up. If you enjoy the collective excitement of sport, the experience can work even when the rules are still coming into focus.
A concert is a different decision. Choose an artist you want to hear and look at that performance’s stage layout. A seat that gives a satisfying overview of a hockey rink may be beside or behind a concert stage. The arena name alone cannot tell you whether a particular ticket is a good buy.
Start with the official events calendar. For a Manhattan-based traveler comparing venues, Madison Square Garden is the simpler central-city option, while Barclays Center offers a Brooklyn evening. UBS makes the strongest case when its game or artist is the one you actually want.
Thirty minutes on a train is not thirty minutes from your hotel
The destination is Elmont–UBS Arena, a Long Island Rail Road station. Use the current journey planner linked from the arena’s arrival guide. The venue describes an approximately five-minute event shuttle between the station and its bus loop; waiting, walking and security take additional time.
From a Midtown hotel, allow roughly 60–90 minutes to reach your seat as a planning estimate, depending on your starting point and train connection. For driving, reserve a similar 60–90-minute planning window before adding parking and entry; traffic can stretch it further. These are buffers, not live journey predictions. Plan the trip home before leaving your hotel, particularly with tired children after a late concert.
Open UBS Arena in Google Maps. The address is 2400 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont, NY 11003. Drivers should follow the instructions for their booked parking lot, not simply the first arena entrance a navigation app suggests.
Pay for the view you want, and budget for getting home
There is no standard admission price for UBS Arena. Tickets belong to a particular game or concert, and prices vary by event, section and availability. Follow the event’s official booking link to Ticketmaster and compare the final total for seats together. A low headline price is less helpful if it leaves your group scattered across the building.
| Part of the evening | Include in your budget |
|---|---|
| Event tickets | The total for your date and seats, including checkout charges |
| Travel | Return LIRR fares, or parking plus fuel, tolls or rideshare charges |
| Food | A planned kosher meal before entry, plus any verified suitable snacks |
| Extras | Merchandise and a backup journey home, if you want that flexibility |
For hockey, seats farther up can help you follow the shape of play; lower seats make the speed and physical scale more immediate. For a first visit, use the official hockey virtual seating view before paying. Concert layouts need their own seat map. Accessible seating should be arranged through the event’s booking options and the arena accessibility guide.

What visitors say
The smaller Tripadvisor sample offers useful texture. Zachary F’s February 2026 review praises the hockey seating from near the glass to the upper level, while Kathleen’s September 2026 concert report enjoyed the evening but emphasized the walk after arriving by train. Together they point to a sensible trade-off: enthusiasm for the arena does not remove the need to plan the journey.
Bring the children, leave the ordinary backpack
The arena FAQ says children aged two and older need tickets; under-twos sit on an adult’s lap. Individual events can have age restrictions. Family lounges are listed near sections 106 and 212, and sensory bags are available through Guest Services. For a noise-sensitive child, a crowded hockey arena deserves preparation even when the ticket policy allows entry.
Standard bags must be no larger than 12 × 12 × 6 inches; backpacks are prohibited regardless of size. Medical and baby bags have screening exceptions. Outside food and drink are generally prohibited, and special dietary arrangements should be discussed with Guest Services ahead of time. Keep the official bag policy handy while packing, especially if you are coming from a day of sightseeing.
For photographs, the exterior is the easiest place for a group picture without blocking a row of seats. Inside, follow the event’s photography rules. Leave professional camera equipment and tripods out of your arena bag; a hockey memory should not begin with an argument at security.
Make dinner part of the plan
The arena advertises kosher options, but we have not verified a current certificate and operating schedule for a specific concession. For a dependable meal, use our kosher dining guides before traveling. If you intend to eat inside, confirm the exact stand, supervision and event-day opening in advance. A dietary request is not automatic permission to bring food through security.
For Shabbat-observant visitors, choose Sunday through Thursday outside Jewish holidays. A late Friday journey or performance is not part of our recommended itinerary. Make the evening the main event: an easy morning around Grand Central or Bryant Park can leave you time to eat, rest and catch the train without racing across Manhattan.
