Coney Island · Baseball by the boardwalk
By CenterNYC Editorial · Sources checked October 12, 2026
Some ballparks ask you to forget the city outside. Maimonides Park does the opposite. Coney Island is part of the outing: a walk by the water, the silhouette of the Parachute Jump, then baseball on a scale that feels manageable rather than monumental. You do not need to arrive knowing every player’s batting average to enjoy that combination.
At a glance: Maimonides Park is the Brooklyn Cyclones’ ballpark at 1904 Surf Avenue in Coney Island. Choose a confirmed home game, then build your beach-and-baseball day around it. Tickets are event-specific; this is not a walk-in attraction with daily admission hours.

Why choose the Cyclones?
The Cyclones are the Mets’ High-A affiliate. This is professional minor-league baseball, not a Mets home game relocated to Brooklyn. That distinction is part of the appeal: choose it for a Coney Island outing with baseball at its center, rather than as a substitute for seeing a particular major-league star.
The ballpark opened in 2001 as KeySpan Park, later became MCU Park, and took the Maimonides name in 2021. Its site belonged to the former Steeplechase amusement park. That history makes the surrounding neighborhood more than scenery: entertainment was bringing people to this corner of Brooklyn long before the first pitch. The team’s official history is a good short introduction.
Choose the game before choosing the day
Start with the Cyclones’ official schedule and its ticket links. Select a home fixture and confirm the season, first-pitch time and seat before paying. A calendar entry is not a promise that tickets have gone on sale. Our October 12 check found a link to the 2027 printable schedule; a live checkout price for that season has not been verified here.
There is no single admission price to quote honestly. Budget for the selected seats, checkout fees, transportation and a meal. A season membership or multi-game package is not the price of one evening. For major-league baseball instead, compare Citi Field; for indoor basketball, start with Barclays Center.
Seats, children and the pace of the game
For a first visit, our preference would be a reserved seat with a clear view of the infield. Use the official seating diagram to see what the ticket actually buys. A social package is not necessarily a better place to follow the game: the team says much of its Backyard area has no view of the field.
Children aged three and under can attend Cyclones games as lap-sitters without a ticket; a separate seat needs a ticket. The published policies describe wheelchair seating, elevators and family bathrooms. Arrange the right seating through the team before booking. These are Cyclones rules; another event at the same stadium can have different conditions.
For children new to baseball, keep the explanation simple: the teams take turns batting and fielding, and a batter tries to get around the bases to score. You can learn the details together. A game does not have a guaranteed finishing time, so an early start is easier to build around than an ambitious dinner reservation afterward.
The journey is part of the plan
Take a suitable D, F, N or Q service to Coney Island–Stillwell Avenue, then walk west along Surf Avenue. The team places the entrance at West 19th Street. Open the ballpark in Google Maps and check the route for your actual departure.
From Manhattan, allow roughly 75–100 minutes door to gate as an editorial planning buffer, including waiting, walking and security—not as a live train estimate. Starting in Upper Manhattan can take longer. Keep the return journey in the budget of both time and energy, especially with children.
Eat first, then enjoy the game
The Cyclones’ policy page mentions kosher concessions, but it does not establish a current supervising agency and availability for your game. We have therefore not verified a concession for our kosher recommendations. Ask the team about the exact stand, supervision and date before relying on it; otherwise plan your meal before entering.
Outside food is prohibited. The current visitor guide allows one sealed water bottle of up to 20 ounces, or an empty reusable bottle; infant formula is allowed. Bring the meal on the outing if it suits you, but finish it outside the ballpark. Browse our kosher restaurant guides when planning the journey, rather than assuming a nearby concession meets your standards.
For Shabbat-observant visitors, choose Sunday through Thursday outside Jewish holidays. A promotion or inexpensive ticket is not a reason to squeeze travel against Friday sundown.
Pack for a ballgame, not an airport
Permitted bag styles are limited to 16 × 16 × 8 inches, with one bag per person. Ordinary backpacks are prohibited; fully clear backpacks and medical exceptions have specific rules. The park is largely cashless. Read the current visitor guide before leaving.
This is outdoor baseball. Carry a layer for the seaside evening, and use the team’s weather updates if the forecast deteriorates. A cancellation or postponement follows the ticket’s exchange terms; do not assume an automatic refund. The full ballpark policies also cover accessibility and family facilities.

An afternoon with room to breathe
Our suggested order is simple: reach Coney Island with daylight to spare, take a relaxed boardwalk walk, eat, and arrive for the game. For photographs, the Parachute Jump gives the neighborhood a recognizable outline; the Surf Avenue exterior tells the baseball story. Inside, keep cameras and phones out of other spectators’ sightlines.
Resist turning the same afternoon into a beach day, a complete amusement-park visit and a full game. Pick one extra activity. For another family outing on a different day, explore our New York with kids guide. For the wider choice of games, tours and places to play, use Sports & Stadiums.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a New York Mets game?
No. The Brooklyn Cyclones are a minor-league affiliate. Mets home games are played at Citi Field.
Can I visit without a game ticket?
The boardwalk and surrounding streets make a separate outing, but they do not give access to the stadium interior. Book an advertised event rather than assuming daily admission.
Is a game a good choice for a rainy day?
It is an outdoor outing with weather-dependent play. Keep a different indoor plan available and follow the team’s update for your fixture.
